Barnyard Pongal Mix
Barnyard Millet is a wholesome grain popularly used all over India during times of fasting.
Known by various names such as Sanwa rice in Hindi, Oodalu in Kannada or Kuthiraivolly in
Tamil; it is easy to cook, readily available, cost-effective, tasty and recommended for all age
groups. Since it looks similar to broken rice when cooked, it is called Sanwa rice, but it
doesn't cook like rice into separate grains. This type of millet is white in colour; bigger than
semolina (rava/sooji) but smaller than sago (sabudana).
Barnyard Millets are rich in iron and therefore, they are ideal for growing children. An
excellent source of fibre, they are very effective in gastric problems. This is one food you can
gorge on without any regrets. You can eat as much as you want and despite a full happy
tummy, you will still feel light and energetic. They are also a great gluten-free alternative.
These millets have low calories, easily digestible protein and a low glycemic index. Due to
this reason, they are good for diabetics and those with cardiovascular diseases.
